Horror Fridays: GET OUT

Image
Dear Visitor, I finally got a chance to watch this. I really wanted to watch it in theaters but I don't like going to the theater alone and no one would go with me. GET OUT has been such a hot topic the last year. White People hated and Black People cheered and the rest of us were left in shock. One thing that I didn't understand about certain people's perspectives is that they considered this a Dark Comedy....I don't understand what's so hilarious about kidnapping black people and stealing their bodies like it's Invasion of the Body Snatchers. In my mind, this is a straight up horror. GET OUT starts with Chris (Daniel Kaluuya) and his girlfriend Rose (Allison Williams) are preparing to visit her parents. This is a big step in their relationship since She comes from a white upper-class family and despite Rod's warnings, the couple are on their way. What follows is strange behaviors surrounding Rose's parents, brother, and the neigh...

Horror Fridays: Cargo (2018)

Image
Dear Visitors, Can we just give all the awards to Martin Freeman? Please? Pretty Please? Also please be advised of SPOILERS. I'll try to keep it at a minimum but here's your SPOILER WARNING! CARGO centers around Andy and his desperate journey to find a safe haven for his daughter, Rosie, in an Australian wilderness that is filled with zombie-like infected people and survivors who distrust EVERYONE. The worst part is that Andy only has 48 hours to find a home for Rosie. That's how long an infected person has before they turn into zombies! The only thing that made this movie bearable was Martin Freeman's performance. I always thought that he was a brilliant actor. He was believable as a father in a crazy circumstance and it was refreshing to see this father figure act like a protector and provider. There is a scene where Andy (Martin Freeman) and his wife Kay (Susan Porter) have an argument about what to do. They're currently living on a houseboat that ...

Dear Visitors, ZOMBIES!!! Or infected people...I don't know. Be prepared to witness the fantastic Martin Freeman as a desperate father trying to find a safe haven for his baby before time runs out! Will review on Friday!!  With Love, M.G.

Horror Fridays: The Terror

Image
Dear Visitors, This has to be one of the best series I've seen in a while. Thank you, AMC! This show s based off of a book that was based off of true events...if that makes sense. The Franklin Expedition is a real historical event where two ships were sent out to discover a new route through the Arctic. The ships and their crew were never seen again. So what happened to them? In Dan Simmons wrote a historical fiction book about the event with a supernatural twist. I haven't read the book yet but it's my list and now that the semester is FINALLY over, I can enjoy myself! Back to the show, what makes it so scary and intense is the vastness of the unknown. They're in the middle of nowhere with supplies running low, no way to contact help, their ships stuck in the ice, scurvy, paranoia, and some mysterious monster slowly hunting them down one by one. That acting, of course, is lead by Jared Harris, Tobias Menzies, and Ciaran Hinds and this cast makes the show...

I'm Alive!!

Image
Dear Visitors, My sincerest apologies to the lack of posts! I thought I had a handle on this semester like I did the previous. However, it turns out that this semester nearly killed me. The projects and big papers just magically piled on top of each other. I still have a week to go before summer break, but I thought I'd at least let you know that I'm still alive and kicking.....barely. Please be patient with me. I haven't stopped binging horror movies/shows while I was away. So I have plenty I want to talk about. I'll see you soon! ~M.G.

Trailer Tuesdays: The Alienist

Image
Dear Visitor, This was an amazing show. I'm rather sad that it was only one season, but that's how I goes. I liked this series so much that I bought the book. I'm excited to get started on it. If you have the chance, please watch it! With Love, M.G.

Horror Fridays: The Cloverfield Paradox

Image
Dear Visitor, During the Super Bowl, Netflix premiered the trailer for THE CLOVERFIELD PARADOX and I about lost my mind with excitement. I love the Cloverfield franchise! So I was definitely excited about an installment set in outer space. However, it turns out not many people were happy with it like I was. I'm not saying that THE CLOVERFIELD PARADOX was perfect. You didn't really connect with the characters which is rather upsetting since the cast was stellar. There was also a little confusion with the arm. How was it able to tell the crew what they needed to know to fix the navigation? The loudest complaint I heard was that people were confused about what happened to the crew. I didn't understand the confusion. The characters literally tell you what happened and before they start up their machine, you hear a news report of a scientist explaining what the "Cloverfield Paradox" is. Seriously, pay attention! Personally, I liked this movie...

Trailer Tuesdays: Cloverfield

Image
Dear Visitor, With THE CLOVERFIELD PARADOX on Netflix, which I will review later, I thought I'd look back at the film that started it all. I remember when this came out and I went to watch it with my friends. Our theater actually had an announcement that if you had epilepsy, you probably shouldn't watch this film. Anyway, I loved it then and I still love it today.  With Love, M.G.

Produced/Directed/Title Role - Michelle Romano Written/Edited/Scored/Playing role of The Husband - Corey Tourigny Co-Executive Producer - Patricia Chica Lead Stars - Robert Catrini (Jack Reacher: Never Go Back) and Jennifer Jostyn (House of 1000 Corpses) I'm getting a fun vampiric vibe from this! Look HERE for more videos from their channel! L...

Trailer Tuesdays: Slender Man

Image
Dear Visitor, They've finally done it. A SLENDER MAN movie. I think a scarier story is the true story of the girls who lured their friend into the woods and tried to kill her as a sacrifice to Slenderman. I've never played that game and, to be honest, I never had the desire to. I might skip this one. With Love, M.G.

Trailer Tuesdays: Ghost Stories

Image
Dear Visitor, I stumbled upon this one while goofing around on my Facebook. Honestly, I'll watch anything with Martin Freeman in it. I think he's awesome. Anyway, there's a mystery surrounding ghosts in this movie. What's not to like? With Love, M.G.

Horror Friday: Horror Story from India

Image
Dear Visitor, I watched this one last year on Netflix and thought it was entertaining and funny at the same time. I know it's not meant to be funny but it just came out that way.  One of the things that confused me about the language of the movie was that sometimes they would speak English. You know how Spanglish is a mix of Spanish and English? It was kinda like that. So it was a mix of Hindi and English. The film is abut a group of friends who think it's a brilliant idea to spend the night at haunted hotel as a last hurrah for a fiend who is moving abroad. While there they find all kinds of creepy things and later discover that they hotel was once an insane asylum. But now the malevolent spirit that calls the hotel home, refuses to let the group of friends leave! Who will survive the night? Check out Netflix and find out. I did enjoy this movie, but I thought the language was distracting. I really don't mind subtitles. In fact, I love foreign language m...

Enjoy Cults with "The Veil"

Image
Dear Visitor, I watched this movie a while ago and I'm not just getting around to talking about it. I think that this movie is amazing! I love Blumhouse because they always make great horror and suspense movies. This film stars Jessica Alba, Lily Rabe, and Thomas Jane. Maggie (Jessica Alba) contacts the sole survivor of Heaven's Veil, a religious cult that committed mass suicide. She convinces Sarah Hope (Lily Rabe) to return to the compound where this horrible tragedy happened and make a documentary about what really happened there. While at the compound, the film crew discover old tapes that show them different experiments the Heaven's Veil cult conducted. The cult leader, Jim Jacobs (Thomas Jane), literally believed that he had the key to immortality. While the crew tries to piece together this house of fanatics, they notice strange things happening around the house. I really liked this one because it bounced back and forth from being a "mockument...

Totally Missed Krampusnacht!

Image
Dear Visitor, How are you this Christmas Season? I finally finished this semester and can now go back to updating this blog. God, I missed this! Today I want to talk about Krampusnacht. You know how Santa rewards children with toys and candy for being good during the year? Well, for every good thing there is an opposite. Krampus is the Anti-Santa who comes and drags naughty children away. According to folklore, Krampus is a half-goat demon looking thing. This makes me wonder if this is where we came up with the idea that the Devil looks like a half-goat demon with a pitchfork. On December 5th evening, you celebrate Krampusnacht. I've seen some videos where there are parades and festivals held for Krampus. This is mostly a European holiday, so its celebrated in places like Austria, Croatia, Bavaria, Hungary, etc. It is also customary to offer Krampus schnapps just like how you leave Santa milk and cookies. I always wanted to celebrate Krampusnacht, but it'...

CONTRACTED Made Me Want to Barf

Image
Written/Directed: Eric England Starring: Najarra Townsend, Caroline Williams, Alice Macdonald Synopsis: After Samantha is raped at a party and wakes up with a hang over, she notices that something is completely off with her body. She's sensitive to sound, she gets sick, and despite her worries, the doctor she sees has no idea what's wrong with her. As time goes on, Samantha slowly decays from the inside out and loses her grasp of her sanity. One thing that I HATED about this movie was that the synopsis that generally describes this movie, starts with "after a one night stand". *Grabs feminist soap box* That is NOT what happened! She was raped! How do I know that? She told the guy she wasn't interested and that she was a lesbian. Then after she is incapacitated, he takes her to his car and rapes her. You can hear her say "NO" throughout the crime. Also what doctor just uses a stethoscope and knows what you have? What about a blood test? When s...

Flatliners (2017) Wasn't Terrible

Image
Dear Visitor, I finally went to go see FLATLINERS (2017) a couple of weeks ago and I must say that I didn't hate it. Critics have been giving some nasty ratings, even Rotten Tomatoes gave it a 0% rating. Here's what it's about. Courtney (Ellen Page) is a med student who wants to know what happens to a person after they die. She enlists the help of her classmates Jamie (James Norton) and Sophia (Kiersey Clemons) to stop her heart, record what happens to her brain, and revive her. Fellow classmates Ray (Diego Luna) and Marlo (Nina Dobrev) stumble on what going on and help out. For the ones that actually flatline, they unknowingly bring back past sins that haunted them. There were some nice jump scares to it, the story wasn't bad, but there was just something missing from it. Here's where I think they dropped the ball on it. 1) The Characters: I didn't care about Courtney, Jamie, or Sophia. The only ones I liked were Ray and Marlo because I liked...

Danger in The Mist

Image
Dear Visitor, How about THE MIST? I have been excited for this show for a while! Although, I was a little underwhelmed. Right out the gate they pile on a ton of Social Justice issues. I'm all for using entertainment to discussing real issues, but it was all on the nose. There was rape, slut shaming, homophobia, racism, comments on "toxic masculinity", and evil white cops. I think they could've used the rest of the season to bring up all these issues. You know, spread out the issues to push the story along. People are going to be confined to small spaces; claustrophobia and paranoia are bound to set in. I'm really worried that this show is going to be constant virtue signaling and so far other commenters are saying the same thing. I did enjoy how scary The Mist seemed. It was horrifying to see Brian's dog get his head ripped off. I hate seeing animals get hurt, even if it's fake. There was also this uptight bitch that got her jaw ripp...

The Pain "Train To Busan"

Image
Dear Visitor, I know that this movie has been out for a while but I really want to talk about this gem. First of all, I want to talk about how much I love Korean cinema. My family and I absolutely love the shows and films that come out of Korea. They have great stories, everything is well written, and the acting is on point! Sometimes I wish that American television had this much drive. So let's move on. A zombie virus infects South Korea leaving a group of survivors on a train to fight off the undead, and their own paranoia, on their train and left to wonder, if there is anywhere safe to go. Their only hope is to make it to Busan. The thing I love most about this movie was were the characters. It was less about the zombies and more about the survivors. You had the father and daughter whose relationship is already struggling. While this father is trying to keep his daughter safe from the monsters and potential threats from the other survivors, she doesn'...

The NIGHT TERRORS app!

Image
Dear Visitor, I came across this app while goofing around on Facebook. This game turns your own home into a haunted house. It comes with ghouls and jump scares! Sounds cool, right? According to the instructions, you need to play this game in the dark and with your headphones on. However, that's not a requirement. I've tinkered with it during the day with natural sunlight in the house and it still worked. But it is pretty scary to play with in the dark. I've played with it a little bit and it made me nervous. My heart was pounding and I had to look away from the screen a few time to get myself to calm down. Personally, what captured my attentions was the warning label. I took a snapshot of it above. So when you play this game, please watch your step! I'll have a trailer for the game down below. I think it was fun and I'll be playing with it some more in the future. Enjoy the scares, M.G.
