CONTRACTED Made Me Want to Barf
Written/Directed: Eric England
Starring: Najarra Townsend, Caroline Williams, Alice Macdonald
Synopsis: After Samantha is raped at a party and wakes up with a hang over, she notices that something is completely off with her body. She's sensitive to sound, she gets sick, and despite her worries, the doctor she sees has no idea what's wrong with her. As time goes on, Samantha slowly decays from the inside out and loses her grasp of her sanity.
One thing that I HATED about this movie was that the synopsis that generally describes this movie, starts with "after a one night stand". *Grabs feminist soap box* That is NOT what happened! She was raped! How do I know that? She told the guy she wasn't interested and that she was a lesbian. Then after she is incapacitated, he takes her to his car and rapes her. You can hear her say "NO" throughout the crime. Also what doctor just uses a stethoscope and knows what you have? What about a blood test? When she says "I haven't had heterosexual intercourse" and "I'm a lesbian", but you see signs to the contrary, don't you think you should voice your concerns that she might've been sexually assaulted and may need to be tested for STDs? *Steps off feminist soap box*.
So the movie starts off with a sleazy guy and a corpse with a biohazard tag on it. NASTY! Then he goes to a party, rapes the main character (Samantha), and disappears. Samantha becomes the main character and you see her struggle throughout the film. It's like the disease she contracted(see what I did there?) truly represents her struggle to stay sober, her overbearing mother, the strain in her relationship with her girlfriend, etc. She's rotting from the inside out! By the end of it she goes full zombie. This is on thing that I appreciated from this film. The entire movie plays like a disease/infection movie, but by the end of the it, it turns into a zombie movie.
Like the title of this post says, this movie made me want to vomit! There was the necrophilia, the excess vaginal bleeding, maggots falling out of her vagina, and then giving this disease to some poor idiot. There were a couple of times I had to look away because me stomach couldn't handle it. I normally don't get reactions like that and, with this movie, I'm not sure that was a good thing.
Don' misunderstand, I thought it was an ok film. I didn't regret watching it, but I'm not going to watch it again. Check it out and see. I'm still debating whether I should watch the sequel to this movie.
