Totally Missed Krampusnacht!

Dear Visitor,

How are you this Christmas Season? I finally finished this semester and can now go back to updating this blog. God, I missed this!

Today I want to talk about Krampusnacht. You know how Santa rewards children with toys and candy for being good during the year? Well, for every good thing there is an opposite. Krampus is the Anti-Santa who comes and drags naughty children away. According to folklore, Krampus is a half-goat demon looking thing. This makes me wonder if this is where we came up with the idea that the Devil looks like a half-goat demon with a pitchfork.

On December 5th evening, you celebrate Krampusnacht. I've seen some videos where there are parades and festivals held for Krampus. This is mostly a European holiday, so its celebrated in places like Austria, Croatia, Bavaria, Hungary, etc. It is also customary to offer Krampus schnapps just like how you leave Santa milk and cookies.

I always wanted to celebrate Krampusnacht, but it's really not a holiday that's celebrated in America. Also I totally forgot when Krampusnacht was so a missed out on that opportunity. But that's ok, there's always next year. I think it would be so much fun to dress up and creep kids out! Kids can be assholes and maybe we need Krampus to scare them into being good.

Anyway, here's a video I found from this year. What do you think? Do any of you celebrate Krampusnacht?

Merry Christmas, My Darlings
