Horror Fridays: GET OUT

Dear Visitor,

I finally got a chance to watch this. I really wanted to watch it in theaters but I don't like going to the theater alone and no one would go with me.

GET OUT has been such a hot topic the last year. White People hated and Black People cheered and the rest of us were left in shock. One thing that I didn't understand about certain people's perspectives is that they considered this a Dark Comedy....I don't understand what's so hilarious about kidnapping black people and stealing their bodies like it's Invasion of the Body Snatchers. In my mind, this is a straight up horror.

GET OUT starts with Chris (Daniel Kaluuya) and his girlfriend Rose (Allison Williams) are preparing to visit her parents. This is a big step in their relationship since She comes from a white upper-class family and despite Rod's warnings, the couple are on their way. What follows is strange behaviors surrounding Rose's parents, brother, and the neighborhood as a whole. It especially gets worse when Chris takes a photo of the only black man at the party and that man desperately begs him to "GET OUT". The neighborhood's secrets slowly come to light as Chris discovers a cult-like neighborhood filled with kidnapping, brainwashing, and murder.

This movie really freaked me out. Particularly, the idea that someone would so callously rob someone of their life, Why? Because you hate the idea of getting old? I had to pause because I saw so many similarities of slavery. They kidnapped people, they had a silent auction for Chris' body, and the party was more like potential slave owners eyeing the goods before they buy. It was really scary. Throughout the movie I was rooting for Chris to make a grand escape and kill them all. I wasn't disappointed.
