Trailer Tuesdays: Sicario 2

Dear Visitor,

Horror Friday: Circle (2015)

Image
Dear Visitor, The whole time I was sitting in my Structual Oppression I class, I thought about this movie. How quickly moral superoirity goes out the window when your life is on the line. The film is about a group of people who wake up and find themselves trapped in a room with this weird orb in the center of the circle they're standing in. As they try to figure out how to escape, they realise the only way out is to vote for who lives and who dies. Quickly, they conspire against each other and attempt, rather poorly, to justify their decisions. I thought this was a great study on how groups see each other. As much as we are lectured about how we should "be global citizens" and sing "We Are The World", that mentality goes out the window when your life is on the line. All of a sudden you're willing to put people into groups like "the old", "the disabled", "married", "not married", "unwed mothers",

Trailer Tuesdays: Ghost Stories

Image
Dear Visitor, I stumbled upon this one while goofing around on my Facebook. Honestly, I'll watch anything with Martin Freeman in it. I think he's awesome. Anyway, there's a mystery surrounding ghosts in this movie. What's not to like? With Love, M.G.

Horror Friday: Horror Story from India

Dear Visitor, I watched this one last year on Netflix and thought it was entertaining and funny at the same time. I know it's not meant to be funny but it just came out that way.  One of the things that confused me about the language of the movie was that sometimes they would speak English. You know how Spanglish is a mix of Spanish and English? It was kinda like that. So it was a mix of Hindi and English. The film is abut a group of friends who think it's a brilliant idea to spend the night at haunted hotel as a last hurrah for a fiend who is moving abroad. While there they find all kinds of creepy things and later discover that they hotel was once an insane asylum. But now the malevolent spirit that calls the hotel home, refuses to let the group of friends leave! Who will survive the night? Check out Netflix and find out. I did enjoy this movie, but I thought the language was distracting. I really don't mind subtitles. In fact, I love foreign language m

Trailer Tuesday: Black Panther

Dear Visitor, For the first Trailer Tuesday of the year, I picked Black Panther. I can't tell you how excited I am for this film. I think it's great to see more heroes of color in the superhero genre. Personally, I'm still holding out hope for a Robbie Reyes Ghostrider Netflix series.  Enjoy the Trailer, M.G.

Enjoy Cults with "The Veil"

Dear Visitor, I watched this movie a while ago and I'm not just getting around to talking about it. I think that this movie is amazing! I love Blumhouse because they always make great horror and suspense movies. This film stars Jessica Alba, Lily Rabe, and Thomas Jane. Maggie (Jessica Alba) contacts the sole survivor of Heaven's Veil, a religious cult that committed mass suicide. She convinces Sarah Hope (Lily Rabe) to return to the compound where this horrible tragedy happened and make a documentary about what really happened there. While at the compound, the film crew discover old tapes that show them different experiments the Heaven's Veil cult conducted. The cult leader, Jim Jacobs (Thomas Jane), literally believed that he had the key to immortality. While the crew tries to piece together this house of fanatics, they notice strange things happening around the house. I really liked this one because it bounced back and forth from being a "mockument

Things I'm Leaving in 2017

Dear Visitor, HAPPY NEW YEAR! It's now 2018 and it's time to hit that reset button and start over! I love the first week of New Years because I like to take my time trying to figure out what I want to do differently this year. There are probably a billion habits that I need to break and there are a couple of things that I've decided to leave back in 2017 and I wonder if I'm the only one.  1) The Phrase "I FEEL". Has anyone else realized that we used the phrase "I FEEL" when trying to make a point. I have been guilty of this too. Feelings aren't a good argument for anything and they don't encourage others to listen to what you have to say. So instead, I'm going to use the phrase "I THINK". By using "I THINK", I'm forced to into using critical thinking and facts that are backed up by research instead of the typical childish "But muh feels!!"  2) The Phrase "TRIGGERED". I&#

Welcome, 2018!

Dear Visitor, HAPPY NEW YEAR!!  It's feels so good to say goodbye to the old and welcome the new! I'm excited to see what this new year has in store for us. I'm still in Grad School so I'm sure I'll be pretty busy with that, but I'm interested to see what I'll be learning next. It'll also be good to see my classmates again. They're cool people. I'd also like to announce that I'm going to be adding more posts to this blog besides the weekly Friday posts. Starting today I'll be posting Music Video of the Month on the first Wednesday of each month. I'm starting with Meghan Trainor's Better When I'm Dancin' because this song always makes me smile. I think we need to start the year with some good vibes, don't you? I'll also be adding Trailer Tuesdays which will be posts of a trailer for games, shows, or movies that I just think are interesting. Honestly, I could watch trailers all day. I'll do thi
